Bye Week boredom?

November 11, 2010
By citizen

Usually  the most boring week in the NFL, this year’s bye week for the Packers comes at a good time.  It’s tough to figure out who to focus my negative energy on this weekend, the Vikings or the Bears!  There are 2 angles to take.  ShouldtI root for the Vikings to start the inevitable skid for the Bears?  Maybe I should hope for the Bears to put the final dagger into Chilly’s head-coaching heart?  Maybe I should root for Favre to save Chilly’s job with another late comeback!

The Viking drama is great to watch!  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a QB and a coach despise each other more.  Favre thinks Chilly’s offense is simplistic and Chilly wouldn’t have a job without him.  They both know it and Chilly can’t stand it.  Not that I look to the ESPuNdits for a lot, but Dilfer had a great line when he said (after the GB game) that “Brett Favre forgot more about this offense in one quarter of that game than Brad Childress ever knew.”  Chilly’s insistence on “playing within the system”  wouldn’t have served him well last week, in fact, if Favre played it Chilly’s way the Vikings lose to AZ.  We all know Favre has his faults, but running the “west coast” offense and reading defenses aren’t on the list.   Chilly is in trouble.

The Bears are just in an odd situation.  They traded Orton for their supposed franchise QB, but he hasn’t shown much of that.  The problem may be the O line, but in 8 games he has only 9 TDs with 7 Ints (compared to Orton’s 12/5).  Martz’s pass happy offense needs a decent o-line to succeed and they are far from it.  Cutler has been sacked a league high 32 times already this season.  I was surprised that even Brandon Jackson has more rushing yards and YPC than Matt Forte.  Their defense has been bolstered by the addition of Julius Peppers and are 4th in the league in scoring D, but considering that they’ve played Carolina, Dallas and Buffalo, I think that may be overstating their prowess.

In the end I will probably hope for a Bears win.  They are not good whatever their record may be.  This weekend… Go Bears!

My prediction:  Vikings 27 Bears 10
